Casting a Net

Sampson’s jet touches down at the Tampa Executive Jet Port and taxis to a stop in front of the black Chevy Tahoe waiting for him.

He grabs his bag and walks over to the SUV getting into the passenger seat, he motions for the driver to head out. Sampson preferred to sit in the front, he didn’t like the feeling of being driven around, that was for Alexi, besides, he had a better view of potential threats from the front. Tampa was Sokolov’s distribution center covering the Southeast for girls, guns and drugs, they even moved a fair number of agricultural workers out of Mexico and Central America, but they didn’t keep a large contingent of men here, no need to draw unneeded attention. The more efficient they were at quickly moving product, including girls, to their other operations the better. Sampson had access to eight men, add another three if the van drivers were in town, they weren’t.

Tim Borodkin, “Little Timmy”, the six three two-hundred-and-eighty-pound senior Sokolov man in Tampa updated him as they drove down Kennedy Boulevard toward the Channelside district; Sokolov owned a three-bedroom condo on the twenty-fifth floor of the Channelside Towers, it was a unit he had never visited. Nevertheless, he kept at least one in every major city he had operations in and Sampson had stayed in most of them at one time or another.

They didn’t have a match on Jessie, the hack into TSA had tracked her coming into Tampa, but she had disappeared before showing up again around noon today in the Tampa Police facial recognition system deployed in Ybor City. Sokolov’s men could place her there but there wasn’t much more information than that at the moment, not what Sampson had wanted to hear and his displeasure was clear. He placed a call to the Spider to see if there were any updates, there was nothing new but Sampson asked him to canvas all available systems to see if he could develop anything specific in the greater Tampa Bay area. With only a few men at his disposal Sampson had called them before boarding the jet in New York and directed them to spread as much cash around as it took to get a hit on her, they had extensive contacts in the area and someone had to know or have seen something. He knew she was good but everyone left a trail of some kind, you just had to be persistent. It was several hours later while he was still in the air that they broke the first lead on her.

Terry Skinner was just a young man, a runner for the Sokolov gang in Tampa, not even officially part of the group, but he had grown up on these streets and knew everyone running a con or game in the area. They hadn’t given him any of the cash but he knew better than most where to look. He figured if this girl was going to stay out of sight she would need a vehicle and that meant Florida Avenue.
